DIY "DRY" SHAMPOO

There is a saying that you shouldn't wash your hair everyday because it can strip the essential nutrients from it. However, I have always been one of those two-shower-a-day people.  When I wake up in the morning I shower (and definitely before leaving the house) and again before going to bed. Why? I have no idea quite honestly but it has been a battle between my parents, me, and the water bill for a long time...and now that I am married, my husband has the same complaint.

Understandably it is a good question. Why when I wash my hair before going to bed at night would I need to wash it again in the morning?  Like many of you, when I sleep my hair (which is normal most of the time...not oily or dry) tends to become unruly and a lot of the time oily at the crown. Normally I would just hop in the shower before going about my daily activities, but on occasion there are times when I am running late and have no time to shower before leaving. That is where this comes in handy.

A while ago, I came across a recipe for a "dry" shampoo on the internet.  I knew they sold this in beauty supply stores but since my hair is normally not oily, I never saw the need to purchase a product like this. I did however write down the ingredients just in case I should ever need it in a pinch.  And the other day I did!

The other day, my two year old decided that he would sleep in until ten (believe me, this mommy is not complaining). However, he had a doctor's appointment at eleven and I still had to make him breakfast, get him dressed, and get enough caffeine in me to function throughout the day. By the time we left the house, sans shower, it was already 10:55 and the doctor's office was fifteen minutes away. Believe me, the way my hair looked that day I was positive that NOTHING would have made it look good enough to walk out of the house. But believe it or not, with a few sprays of this mixture and zap of my hair dryer I was able to make my hair look great! The best part...all you need is three ingredients!

WHAT YOU NEED:
*2 tbsp. cornstarch
*2 tbsp. rubbing alcohol
*8 tbsp. water

WHAT YOU DO:
Put all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake to mix together.  Then spray on hair where oily.  You only need to dampen the hair. Comb through your hair and then dry with a hair dryer. Repeat if necessary.  It's that simple!
